Reflection Of My Sec One Life
My Sec One life is coming to an end and I am posting this blog to talk about my reflection of the year. I stepped into HCI at the beginning of the year, meeting new friends and teachers. The life in HCI is rather stressful and there is a whole load of homeworks, but I also learnt a lot of other skills like IS which includes html, adobe photoshop and flash which are essential for future working purposes. I have also learnt some new subjects which includes Geography, History and IS. I also had a lot activities happening this year which includes Beach cleaning, Angles and Projects etc. Our group consists of four person and we went into the Finals without much problems, unfortunately we are not able to went into Grand Finals as our website is not very well done. I am also satisified with my results for the whole year and I hope it will be a fruity year when I am a Sec 2 student.

Expections

My parents put high expectations on me, especially in the subject of Chinese and Maths. Sometimes, although I have put in a lot effort studying for the test, yet the results are poor, they will tell me to strive harder for the next test to get better grades.
In my opinion, I will not put a very high expection on children, otherwise they will be very stressful. As long as the child puts in effort studying for the test, I will not punish them. I will tell them to work hard for the next test and achieve a better result.
I think that the expectations will differ due to the generation gap as different generation will have different expectations on their children.

Title : The Stonewalker
Author: Vivien Alcock
Everyone is tired of Poppy Brown's stories and hence Poppy started talking to garden statues. Later her favorite statue, Belladonna, is struck by lightning and comes to life, Poppy have to find a human who will listen. Poppy's classmate Emma is skeptical, but was curious to help Poppy investigate the living statues, which are disappearing from gardens all over town and assembling somewhere on the moors. What seemed fascinating at first soon becomes terrifying as the two girls are captured by the creatures they had observed, the creatures who are at once beautiful, spiteful, and as unfeeling as the stone they're made of.

Poem
This is the very first poem I will be writing. It is about a student walking into the staff room.
The Staff Room
Timid like a small rat
I enter the dangerous room
with all eyes facing me
and a cleaner with a broom
My heart is jumping fast
eyes focusing at homework
the teacher starts screaming at me
I regret doing all the housework
With a sword in his hand
hacked his way towards me
feeling very scared
why is it me?
Wishing to turn back
with no possibility
the teacher approach me
I feel with no ability
The fire blast burns my hair
attack with deadly aim
pulling out his shotgun
he continued his game
Tears start falling down
hoping for his forgiveness
he pats my shoulder, comforting me
luckily he still have some kindness

Lesson 5: Poetry on Gambling
1.In the first poem "Tom Beatty" ,the author describes a lawyer who tries his luck to win some money .He finds that the chance of winning are very low. The author writes the lawyer felt despair.
2.In the second poem the author describes the colourful casino environment where there are colourful tips, smoke, dry lips, erratic lights, constrained tones, mesmerizing lights, the author shows a gambler trying to win back his money, even though he is exhausted.
3.The third poem shows how money is wasted when a person gambles, he will bet on anything in order to gamble.
The main difference in the three poem, is the feeling of the author of the poems. For example, the first author is trying to show the feeling of everything that turn against you. The second author, shows the desire to win back the money. And the last author is the feeling of lose of money.

Lesson 6
I do not support the opening of casino. This is one of the quotes from the gamblers "“The longer you gamble compulsively , the more you become a compulsive liar”.
When there is casion, people will be addicted to gambling. As a result, they will start to lie to their family. When the gamblers have won some money, they will not be satisified and will continue to gamble. They will eventually lose all the money they have and may borrow money from loan shark and the consequences will be very serious. The family will be threatened by the loan shark and the family will be in a chaos. Some of the addicted gamblers will rob and steal from others to get the money and continue to gamble. As a result, the crime rate of Singapore will increase in number. The tourists visiting Singapore will have a sense of fear and will not come to Singapore again. It will deeply affect the population of Singapore.
Opening casino will enable more job opportunities, but the negative effects are much greater than the positve effects. Gambling will destroy a family ot their relationship. The consequences are very seerious. All in all, I do not support the opening of the casino.

My favourite poet (Lesson 2)
Langston Hughes
James Langston Hughes was born February 1, 1902, in Joplin, Missouri. His parents divorced when he was a small child, and his father moved to Mexico. He was raised by his grandmother until he was thirteen, when he moved to Lincoln, Illinois, to live with his mother and her husband, before the family eventually settled in Cleveland, Ohio. It was in Lincoln, Illinois, that Hughes began writing poetry. Following graduation, he spent a year in Mexico and a year at Columbia University. During these years, he held odd jobs as an assistant cook, launderer, and a busboy, and travelled to Africa and Europe working as a seaman. In November 1924, he moved to Washington, D.C. Hughes's first book of poetry, The Weary Blues, was published by Alfred A. Knopf in 1926. He finished his college education at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania three years later. In 1930 his first novel, Not Without Laughter, won the Harmon gold medal for literature.
Hughes, who claimed Paul Lawrence Dunbar, Carl Sandburg, and Walt Whitman as his primary influences, is particularly known for his insightful, colorful portrayals of black life in America from the twenties through the sixties. He wrote novels, short stories and plays, as well as poetry, and is also known for his engagement with the world of jazz and the influence it had on his writing, as in "Montage of a Dream Deferred." His life and work were enormously important in shaping the artistic contributions of the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s. Unlike other notable black poets of the period—Claude McKay, Jean Toomer, and Countee Cullen—Hughes refused to differentiate between his personal experience and the common experience of black America. He wanted to tell the stories of his people in ways that reflected their actual culture, including both their suffering and their love of music, laughter, and language itself.
Langston Hughes died of complications from prostate cancer in May 22, 1967, in New York. In his memory, his residence at 20 East 127th Street in Harlem, New York City, has been given landmark status by the New York City Preservation Commission, and East 127th Street has been renamed "Langston Hughes Place."
In addition to leaving us a large body of poetic work, Hughes wrote eleven plays and countless works of prose, including the well-known “Simple” books: Simple Speaks His Mind, Simple Stakes a Claim,Simple Takes a Wife, and Simple's Uncle Sam. He edited the anthologies The Poetry of the Negro and The Book of Negro Folklore, wrote an acclaimed autobiography (The Big Sea) and co-wrote the play Mule Bone with Zora Neale Hurston.
I felt that this poet has a hard ilife when he was young. His parents were divorced and he was raised by his grandma until the age of thirteen. But still he is a great poet. Not only did he write poems, he also wrote Proses, Drama, Poetry in Translation and Translation. I think that the poems he write is totally awesome. His poems are interesting and rhyming, that is why I liked him, his poem, his drama etc. I think he is a very talented person, he is able to write such wonderdul poems. He really is a great person and I liked him. His poems are famous, but unfortunately he died in the year of 1967. He is the best poet in my heart.
Three poems done by Langston Hughes
The Weary Blues
by Langston Hughes
Droning a drowsy syncopated tune,
Rocking back and forth to a mellow croon,
I heard a Negro play.
Down on Lenox Avenue the other night
By the pale dull pallor of an old gas light
He did a lazy sway . . .
He did a lazy sway . . .
To the tune o' those Weary Blues.
With his ebony hands on each ivory key
He made that poor piano moan with melody.
O Blues!
Swaying to and fro on his rickety stool
He played that sad raggy tune like a musical fool.
Sweet Blues!
Coming from a black man's soul.
O Blues!
In a deep song voice with a melancholy tone
I heard that Negro sing, that old piano moan--
"Ain't got nobody in all this world,
Ain't got nobody but ma self.
I's gwine to quit ma frownin'
And put ma troubles on the shelf."
Thump, thump, thump, went his foot on the floor.
He played a few chords then he sang some more--
"I got the Weary Blues
And I can't be satisfied.
Got the Weary Blues
And can't be satisfied--
I ain't happy no mo'
And I wish that I had died."
And far into the night he crooned that tune.
The stars went out and so did the moon.
The singer stopped playing and went to bed
While the Weary Blues echoed through his head.
He slept like a rock or a man that's dead.

POET TO BIGOTI have done so little
For you,
And you have done so little
For me,
That we have good reason
Never to agree.I, however,
Have such meagre
Power,
Clutching at a
Moment,
While you control
An hour.But your hour is
A stone.My Moment is
A flower.
DREAM VARIATIONS
To fling my arms wide
In some place of the sun,
To whirl and to dance
Till the white day is done.
Then rest at cool evening
Beneath a tall tree
While night comes on gently,
Dark like me--
That is my dream! To fling my arms wide
In the face of the sun,
Dance! Whirl! Whirl!
Till the quick day is done.
Rest at pale evening . . .
A tall, slim tree . . .
Night coming tenderly
Black like me.
To fling my arms wide
In some place of the sun,
To whirl and to dance
Till the white day is done.
Then rest at cool evening
Beneath a tall tree
While night comes on gently,

First Lesson
The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
Q1. There are not many use of figurative language in this poem. Unlike other poems, this poem is "short and sweet". There is only one figurative language in this poem which is"Two roads diverged in a yellow wood". In my point of view, I think this figuurative language is"personification" because the two roads which appears in the poem is similar to two person seperate with each other. The poet uses simple words and short sentenses which attract my attentation easily. The poet has a different way of writing poems compare to the other poet.
Q2. I like this poem because it is simple, short and easy to understand. Some of the other poems which I found are long and difficult to comprehend. This poem has a deep meaning. It tells us that in life, there will be many decision you should choose. In the poem, it writes that there are two roads to choose and the poet choose the shorter one which is a correct choice. The two roads represents the choices we can make. The poem mainly tells us we should think carefully whenever we make a decision. The choice you make can be right or wrong. Think before you act.

Title : Charlotte’s web
Author: E.B.White
Charlotte’s web is a very interesting story. The story is mainly about how a spider calls Charlotte saves the life of a pig names Wilbur. The book is not very long and it attracts my attention easily and I finished reading it in a few hours. I highly recommend this book to others as it is a very touching story.
There was a young girl named Fern. She saved a little pig called Wilbur when her father was planning to kill it as Wilbur was too small to be sold. Fern kept Wilbur as a pet. Fern spent her free time with Wilbur the pig that she loved and the other barn animals that played a large part in the life of Wilbur. Soon, Wilbur grew older and bigger. Fern had also grown older and was more matured. She had more friends now and did not pay as much attention as before. As Wilbur had increased in so much size, Fern’s father decided to kill Wilbur. Charlotte, the large grey spider, befriended Wilbur and helped him deal with the shocking news that his life would end as bacon on someone’s plate. Charlotte went as far as coming up with an interesting plan that only this spider could carry out with the help of Templeton the rat (who never went anything unless there was something in it for himself) to help Wilbur escaped death. In the end, Charlotte was dead after giving birth to her baby spiders. But Charlotte was always remembered in Wilbur’s heart.

Title : Things not seen
Author: Andrew Clements
This book was about Bobby who became an invisible boy. Bobby Philip was an average fifteen-year-old boy. He woke up one morning and he could not see himself in the mirror. Bobby was not blind or dreaming, he was invisible. The whole family was not able to see him, but could only hear his voice. They were very worried about him. There was not any rhyme or reason for Bobby’s new condition and even his dad who was a physicist could not figure out the reason. As a result, Bobby was not able to go school and there were no friends for him. He was a missing person.
Luckily, he met Alicia who was a blind girl. Bobby could not resist talking to her and trusted her. He first met her at the library as Bobby bumped into her. After that, they had met a few more times and became good friends. She was angry with Bobby at first as she thought it was impossible for a person to be invisible. But soon she realised Bobby was telling the truth. Later, Alicia told her parents about Bobby.
Bobby’s invisibility results in terrible consequences. The police department from Bobby’s school was worrying about Bobby who was absent for school for a long period of time. Hence they called the police and went to Bobby’s house to look for him. They did not find him. Bobby’s parents were threatened. They would be sent to jail for the disappearance of Bobby Philip.
They had left a total of five days to resolve the problem. There was only a very little time. Bobby’s parents and Alicia’s

Book Review
I am going to summarise the storybook" Village By The Sea". This book is about a family's survival in a small fishing village in India. The family consists of six person, they are Hari, Bela, Kamal, Bela and their parents. Their mother was suffering from illness and was sick for a long time. While their father was a drunkard, he paid no attention to the family. As a result, Hari and Lela had to take care of their sisters and the family. They also had a dog named Pinto. Hari 's friend , Ramu is looking forward to the factory being built so he could get a job. The Thul is going to be a village where factories will be built in the future. The watchman of the factory came and told Hari about the new factory which is going to be bulit. There is a person named Biji who is a rich man in Thul. He had the best boat in the village. But he is very hot-tempered and proud. Then, the Khanacker brothers killed Pinto as the family had no money to pay them for the money their father owned for drinking toddy. Hence, Hari went to Bombay with others living in Thul to protest in Bombay for the future of their village, Thul. When Hari had gone to Bombay, Lila had to take care of the family all by herself. Then, their mother was terribly ill and Lila called her two sisters to go to Hira-Bai to seek treatment. Hari-Bai told them to wait for the medicine man to come. The man treated their mother but their mother did not recover from the illness. Luckily, they met de Silvas who provided them jobs and gave them money. When they knew that their mother was ill, they took her to the hospital to seek treatment. Lila was grateful to de Silvas. When their father knew her mother was sent to the hospital, he was from angry and went immediately to the hospital for her wife. But he had turned over a new leaf and stopped drinking toddy.
Hari reached Bombay. There was a speech at Bombay by Adarkar and Sayyid Ali. After that, he tried to look for de Silvas to seek a job but unfortunatly they were away for holiday. He met a watchman at the place who brought him to Jagu. Jagu owned a small eating restaurant and gave Hari a job in his restaurant. Later, he met Mr Panwallah who taught him how to fix watches and earned extra money. It was to warm for Hari to sleep in the restaurant in the night, so Mr Panwallah advised Hari to go to the park to sleep, At the park, Hari met a peliceman who did not allow him to sleep in the park. But then an old man shown up and talked to the policeman, thus Hari was able to sleep in the park. During the monsoon, Hari was ill. So, Jagu brought him to his house in the slums andhe argued with his wife who did not seem happy about Hari coming to their house. On the other hand, the de Silvas was leaving the village and was heading back to Bombay and a new guest would be here who liked birds. Finally, Hari left Bombay and returned Thul with lots of money and his mother was also recovered from her illness.

Mother's Memorable Read
Now, I am going to introduce the book my mother had remebered since she was a young girl. The book is Romance of the Three Kingdoms. It is written by Luo Guanzhong in the 14th century, it is a Chinese historical novel. It is acclaimed as one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature, with a grand total of 800,000 words, nearly a thousand characters, and consists of 120 chapters. The books is about events in the turbulent years near the end of the Han Dynasty and the Three Kingdoms era of China, starting in 169 and ending with the reunification of the land in 280. It is a very nice book. My mother told me that when she was young, there was no library for them to read or borrow books. She came across with the book during the chinese literature lesson. Every students had a copy and my mother had kept the book till now. Till today, the plots in Roamance of the Three Kingdoms still resonates with her as it is the very first book she had read which is about history of China. The book had taught her how to be a better person and helped her to gain her vocabulary.

Should we legalise the sale of human organs?
On Friday morning, our class had our second English current affair. The topic is"Should we legalise the sale of human organs?". In my personal view, we should do that. Now, I am going to talk about some informations regarding the topic.
In 2000, a total of 22,827 organs were transplanted in the United States. In the decade, the discrepancy between the number of available organs and the number of patients requiring a transplant operation has increased significantly.A British Medical Association report has indicated that in the period between 1995 and 1999, 1,000 patients in the United Kingdom died whilst waiting for a heart, heart and lung, or liver transplant. An average of 15 patients die every day in the US whilst awaiting an appropriate organ. It is sad when seeing people died when waiting for a suitable organ transpant. There is also black market which trades human organs, but the costs is very expensive. The poor people is not able to afford buying a human organ for the transplant, hence they will suffer and eventually die. In my point of view, I think the government should legal the sale of human organs and make the price more fair, so the poor people will still able to afford. This is my view about the sale of human organs.

Feedback of my new blog
I had already started this blog for about three month. I found blogging is very fun and I really enjoy it. I hope I will start blogging sooner, so I will be a more experienced blogger. In my own opinion, I think that the most difficiult part of blogging is how to maintain it and choosing different template or wallpaper. We have to think hard to attract others to view you blog and to write comments on it. You have to blog frequently and should add pictures, videos, music etc to attract others' attention. We will also take quite a long time to choose the background of the blog which is called the blogskin.
I like to write blog entries and adding pictures. At the start of this year, when my teachers start to teach us about blogging. I think it is really very boring, but now I feel blogging is very fun. When we start blogging, we will gain vocabulary and spelling. It also help us on our writing skills. I think that we can improve the whole process by having a class blog which have a tagboard etc. We can also write blogs about sports like NBA, basketball instead of things happening in school.
And I think the electronic bookshelf to my blog is a good way to record the books I had read so far. That's about it. Goodnight.
Graphic novel and Written novel
Recently, my two English teachers had showed our class about some graphic novels. I found it very interesting and I like it. The graphic novel is actually a storybook which consists of only pictures and there was not a single word in the book. On the other hand, written novel only consists of words and there are not a picture in there. In my own opinion, I would prefer graphic novels to written novels. Written novels sometimes can be very boring if you are not interested.
Now, I am going to talk about the difference between the graphic novel and the written novel. I think they have their weakness and strength. First I am going to talk the graphic novel. Graphic novel is just pictures as I had mentioned earlier, but they are not able to give as much as informations compared to the written novel. But it can easily attract the reader's attention and the reader will eager to finish reading it.
What about written novel? They are just written words but can provide the readers a lot more informations than the graphic novel. Its weakness is the readers may get confused if there are too many characters appearing in the book.
Plagiarism
I had recently understood what is Plagiarism. Plagiarism is the use or close imitation of the language and ideas of another author and representation of them as one's own original work which means copying the work of others much easierby copying and pasting text from one web page to another.
In my opinion, I think it is very irresponsible for the person to copy other people's work etc. Plagiarism can cause a lot of consequences which charge of plagiarism includes expulsion from a university or loss of a job, not to mention a writer's loss of credibility and professional standing. Hence, we should really avoid plagiarism. We should be very careful when we publish posts etc to the Internet, we should not copy other people's ideas as the result can be very serious.
I really hope this post will be useful and we should think before we act. There are some reference you can infer about the plagiarism.

Why did I do it? Philip Malloy
I regretted after transferring to a new school. I couldn't forgive myself making so much trouble and being a disturbance in the class. And the worst of all, Miss Narwin was planning to resign after all the troubles I had done. Miss Narwin was a good teacher. She put in a lot of effort to make us like literature.
I really should not be so mischievous when the national anthem was being played. I should just stand there and keep quiet. I really should not think that she was always against me. I should concentrate during her lessons and able to achieve well grades in the examinations and importantly able to join the track team. Because of me, Miss Narwin's reputation was bad and had a bad impression for others. I am really sorry. I truly hope I will have the opportunity to apologize to her. I regretted the entire thing I had done. Why did I do it?

My Reading Habit
I had started reading when I am in primary3. As English was the worst subject in primary school, my teacher encouraged us to start reading storybooks in order to gain vocabulary and do well in the English paper. My primary school had a small library which enable us to read chinese storybooks, newspaper and so on.
Our school also had a small book fair held every year. During those period, I will sprint to the recess and bought the books which entertained me the most. And during weekends, my parents will take me to the national library. There, I will mostly spent five hours reading novels or inference books etc.
Over the years,I had benefited a lot from reading books. My grade for English increased from grade C to A. It all thanked to books, especially the book called "New concept English 1". I had just read a book called"Nothing But The Truth". I think it is a very good book. In conclusion, I felt that reading is very important. It helpes us in writing, vocabulary and even grammar. Start reading now!

The Shanxi Mine Explosion
I had just read finish today's Straits Time. I had found one article which made me very sad. The article is about mine explosion happening in Shanxi, China.
A gas explosion ripped through a coal mine in Shanxi, killing at least 74 miners. It is the worst mine accident happening in more than one year. About 436 miners were working underground when the blast occured. There are many miners trapped underground, they were only rescued after many hours the accident had happened. A total of 114 miners were under observation at the hospital. There are also a few people who suffered serious injuries.
It was really a very sad accident. I really hope the miners who had suffered injuries are able to get well soon.

TENNIS(1P431)
I am here to post my 4th blog. Next week is going to be the first test I am having in my new secondary school. Must study hard.
I am one of Roger Federer's fan. Federer is a great tennis player from Switzerland. On last Sunday, he faced Rafael Nadal from Spain in the Australian Open Final. It lasted for five sets and was more than four hours. The final score is 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (7-3) ,3-6, 6-2. Federeer lost. He needed a victory to match American Pete Sampras, carrer record of 14 men's Grand Slam tourments singles titles. I was very sad after watching the match.
Federer choked up after receiving the runner-up plate. He was not able to say a few more sentences into his speech before he started to cry.
Federer, jia you. You are my great Tennis player. Go for it and win.
