Book Review

I am going to summarise the storybook" Village By The Sea". This book is about a family's survival in a small fishing village in India. The family consists of six person, they are Hari, Bela, Kamal, Bela and their parents. Their mother was suffering from illness and was sick for a long time. While their father was a drunkard, he paid no attention to the family. As a result, Hari and Lela had to take care of their sisters and the family. They also had a dog named Pinto. Hari 's friend , Ramu is looking forward to the factory being built so he could get a job. The Thul is going to be a village where factories will be built in the future. The watchman of the factory came and told Hari about the new factory which is going to be bulit. There is a person named Biji who is a rich man in Thul. He had the best boat in the village. But he is very hot-tempered and proud. Then, the Khanacker brothers killed Pinto as the family had no money to pay them for the money their father owned for drinking toddy. Hence, Hari went to Bombay with others living in Thul to protest in Bombay for the future of their village, Thul. When Hari had gone to Bombay, Lila had to take care of the family all by herself. Then, their mother was terribly ill and Lila called her two sisters to go to Hira-Bai to seek treatment. Hari-Bai told them to wait for the medicine man to come. The man treated their mother but their mother did not recover from the illness. Luckily, they met de Silvas who provided them jobs and gave them money. When they knew that their mother was ill, they took her to the hospital to seek treatment. Lila was grateful to de Silvas. When their father knew her mother was sent to the hospital, he was from angry and went immediately to the hospital for her wife. But he had turned over a new leaf and stopped drinking toddy.

Hari reached Bombay. There was a speech at Bombay by Adarkar and Sayyid Ali. After that, he tried to look for de Silvas to seek a job but unfortunatly they were away for holiday. He met a watchman at the place who brought him to Jagu. Jagu owned a small eating restaurant and gave Hari a job in his restaurant. Later, he met Mr Panwallah who taught him how to fix watches and earned extra money. It was to warm for Hari to sleep in the restaurant in the night, so Mr Panwallah advised Hari to go to the park to sleep, At the park, Hari met a peliceman who did not allow him to sleep in the park. But then an old man shown up and talked to the policeman, thus Hari was able to sleep in the park. During the monsoon, Hari was ill. So, Jagu brought him to his house in the slums andhe argued with his wife who did not seem happy about Hari coming to their house. On the other hand, the de Silvas was leaving the village and was heading back to Bombay and a new guest would be here who liked birds. Finally, Hari left Bombay and returned Thul with lots of money and his mother was also recovered from her illness.
